Denman tangle smoother review

Having long, thick hair is a nightmare at times! I struggle to tame my hair because it is full of tangles.

I was recently sent this Denman Tangle Smoother to test out. This brush is a god send! I normally brush my hair when it is wet, brushing from the bottom, and then brushing the top half of my hair - I have noticed that this technique works better with my unruly hair!

I love the colour of the brush too - it stands out amongst my hair care products. There's also a yellow version (note - I took the photos of the tangle smoother before I tested it out). I wish there was a way to fold this to make it travel friendly.

This is the best type of brush if you have long, thick hair, if you wear extensions or a wig, or if your hair is full of tangles. The metal pins do a great job in smoothing your hair. It can even be used to massage the scalp.

It can be purchased from the Denman website.

Lil Miss Greasy: Batiste dry shampoo does it again!

So Batiste have done it again, and come out with a few more dry shampoos! The two new additions are called: Paisley and Graffiti.

Paisley and Graffiti

Out of the two, Paisley is my favourite, because it has top notes of: Grapefruit,Lime and Cassis, middle notes of: Jasmine, Rose,Apple,Raspberry and Patchouli and base notes of Musk, Caramel and Vanilla (these are my favourite scents)

Graffiti on the other hand has top notes of: Apple, wild berry, grape and citrus. It has middle notes of Jasmine, Lily and Iris and base notes of Musk, Coconut, Sandalwood and Cedar.

What I've noticed about these new bottles is that the scent lingers for longer! Whenever I use dry shampoo, I always use it the night before (you can also use it for a Halloween party) and I blow dry my hair on the cool setting in the morning to remove any residue! It usually works a treat!

These cost £2.99 each and are exclusive to Boots :)

Batiste have also come out with a limited edition trio (containing Mamba, Savannah and Wild)- which would make a fabulous stocking filler!

These are very convenient because of their size, especially for me because I travel a lot!

This limited edition pack costs £4.99 and is available at Boots :)

Disclaimer: I was sent these products for free in consideration for a review. Honest opinion as always!

Lil Miss Pampered: Denman Bebop Brush *

I use hair straighteners pretty much everyday, therefore in order to compensate for the damage, I routinely apply oil to my hair. I use a combination of almond oil and coconut oil, which are known to add moisture to hair. Massaging your hair stimulates blood flow to your scalp, which can encourage hair growth.

I was sent this Denman Bebop Brush several months ago. I use it every time I apply oil to my hair. This brush can also be used in the shower, whilst applying shampoo and conditioner.

This brush has extra soft plastic pins which are meant to stimulate your scalp even more! This could make a perfect stocking filler present for literally anyone (as long as they have hair!)

In my opinion, Denman brushes are definitely at the top of their game!

How much does it cost?
This brush costs around £4

Where can you buy it from?
It is available from Boots, Superdrug and John Lewis. You can also check out their website.

Do you massage your hair?

PS - this product was sent to me in consideration of a review. Honest opinion, as always!

Lil Miss Glossy: Moroccanoil Treatment Review

I previously mentioned in this post that my hair is the bane of my life! It used to be frizzy, messy and out of control. I recently purchased 'Moroccanoil Treatment' after stalking it on BuyaPowa for weeks and I haven't looked back since.

The Low Down:

'Moroccanoil Treatment’s versatile, nourishing and residue-free formula can be used as a conditioning, styling and finishing tool. It blends perfectly with other products and even speeds up drying time. This treatment for hair completely transforms and repairs as its formula transports lost proteins for strength; fatty acids, omega-3 oils and vitamins for shine; and antioxidants for protection. It absorbs instantly to fill gaps in hair created by heat, styling and environmental damage.''

What are the ingredients?

Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Argania Spinoza Kernel Oil (Aragan Oil), Linseed Extract (Linum Usitatissimum), Fragrance (Supplement), D&C Yellow 11, D&C Red 17, Coumarin, Benzyl Benzoate, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone

Unfortunately the product is not made from only pure Argan oil (which is a miracle oil from Morocco) so don't be fooled by that! Silicone's also seem to be present in the product (the first three chemicals) - which is probably why my hair looks so shiny.

What are your impressions of the Moroccanoil hair treatment?

I have seen a massive difference in the condition of my hair. This products makes my hair look very shiny and healthy. It rained today - and the shine still remained on my hair, instead of reverting into a frizzy mess (like it usually does!)

How do you use it?

I simply wash my hair, wrap my hair in a towel for about 10 minutes and then apply the treatment. I simply use one pump and pat it on my hair. I avoid the roots - and try to limit to only using one pump (the first time I used the product, I used two pumps, which made my hair look very greasy!).

Where can you get it from?

You can purchase this product from Amazon, BuyaPowa (although you will have to be quick as it sells like hot cakes) as well as your local salon.

How much does it cost?

This was the reason why I was reluctant to purchase the product in the first place. £30 for a 100ml product seemed a bit too steep for me. Luckily I got £9 off by purchasing from BuyaPowa! I will definitely purchase this product again, but only if the results stay the same! (They say silicone damages your hair, so I'm not going to buy any backups just yet)

Advantages?
  • Makes hair look very healthy
  • Easy to apply
  • My hairdressers recommended it!
  • Easy to get hold off
  • Great packaging - love the pump. The product also comes with a lid (which is useful for travelling)
  • It is sold in different sizes - you can always purchases the smallest one to sample it!
Disadvantages?
  • Expensive - but it will last me a long time (the hair dresser said it could last up to a year)
  • It's not really Moroccan oil - it's just silicones, a tiny amount of argan oil and some other chemicals
  • The bottle is made of glass - so it could possibly shatter
  • Product can make your hair look greasy! I do have to wash my hair more often now!

Have you tried this product before?

Lil Miss Greasy: Batiste Dry Shampoo in Cherry!

I was recently sent this gorgeous dry shampoo from Batiste - in a Cherry scent! I have to admit - this is my favourite packaging! It's so vintage - and looks GORGEOUS on my dresser!

The low down:
''Indulge in the beauty of yesteryear with the new Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo with an unmistakeable fruity fragrance and cute design inspired by our latest love of vintage glamour. Batiste Cherry refreshes the parts other dry shampoos can't reach, leaving your hair revived and fruity when you have far better things to do than wash your hair.''

What does it smell like?
Pure cherry! I love the smell of cherry...

How do you use it?
Just like the other Batiste Dry Shampoos, shake vigorously before use. Keeping nozzle about 30cm from hair, spray into roots. Massage through with fingertips. Brush and style. I also recommend you use it at night time to prevent any white marks in the morning!

What do you think of it?
I've used this product a few times (I tend to wash my hair every 2 days, and apply dry shampoo on the second night before my hair wash). The lovely cherry smell lingered on, and the residue was easily brushed out the next morning.

How much does it cost?
£2.99 for a 200ml bottle

Where can I buy it from?
Boots, Superdrug, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose, Wilkinsons, Savers and Lloyds pharmacists

P.S - I was sent this product for consideration for a review. Honest opinion - as always!

Lil Miss Glossy: Macadamia Hair Masque review

I've recently had my hair cut, and now I want it to remain healthy and glossy. One of my recent (and more specific loves) have been hair masks.

I have heard many great things about the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. It has been mentioned on many YouTube videos as well as blogs. When I saw the product on BuyaPowa.com, I snapped it up straight away. (I will be expanding more on BuyaPowa at the end of the post.)

What exactly is Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque?

''Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque is a revitalising hair reconstructor for dry, damaged hair.''

A combination of macadamia oil and argan oil along with tea tree oil, chamomile oil, aloe and algae extracts rejuvenate and rebuild the hair, leaving the hair deeply nourished for improved elasticity and shine with long-lasting conditioning benefits. The Deep Repair Masque is an intense, revitalising hair treatment.

What's in it?
Aqua/Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Cetrimonium Chloride, Quaternium-80, Amodimethicone, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Parfum/Fragrance, Algae Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Limonene, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Citronellol, C11-15 Pareth-7, C12-16 Pareth-9, Trideceth-12, Trimethylsiloxyamodimethicone.

As you can see, there's NO PARABENS, NO ALCOHOL AND NO SLS (woohoo!). The product also contains argan oil (this is like miracle gold for your hair), tea tree oil, chamomile oil as well as aloe and algae.

How do you use it?
I apply the product on damp hair and leave it on for about 7 minutes. I then remove the product from the ends of my hair using water and voila! All done.

How long have you used this for?
I purchased this product a couple of weeks ago, and I have used it approximately four times. The instructions on the packaging state that you should use it no more than twice a week.

Did you see a difference?
I noticed that the product made the ends of my hair very shiny and healthy looking. The ends of my hair are noticeably dryer than the rest of my hair. This mask has made the ends of my hair more in sync with the rest of it.

Advantages?
  • Great for your hair
  • It smells lovely  and fresh  :)
  • You can purchase it in all different sizes

Disadvantages?
  • The product is not very sanitary as you have to dip your fingers in it!
  • It is quite pricey... however, I have a solution for that!
 Buya what?
I purchased this product from one of my favourite websites, BuyaPowa!  BuyaPowa is a co-buying website. The more people who purchase a product, the cheaper is gets! I purchased the 250ml product for a mere £14, when it actually sells for about £26.00!

Good news
If you are interested in this product, it will be available tonight (or maybe tomorrow)! There will only be 80 available, so hurry up because some of these co-buys vanish before you know it. You can go on this page and leave your email under the Macadamia Masque (you will receive an alert as soon as the co-buy goes live).I have also added a widget on my blog, which will also alert you.

Bad news
If you don't manage to purchase the product from BuyaPowa, then you can purchase it from: BeautyBay, Amazon and Ebay (although they will be more expensive).

Have you ever tried this product?

Lil Miss Fluffy: Denman hairbrushes review :)

Whenever I go to the hairdressers, I always get told off for not brushing my hair enough. I used to think that brushing your hair often would cause it to fall out more. In fact, it's really good for your hair :)

Brushing your hair:
  • Makes your hair shiny.
  • Removes any dirt or grease.
  • Increases blood circulation.
Obviously it's bad to brush your hair too much!

I was sent some Denman brushes a while back, and I've been using them pretty much everyday! Denman hair brushes are the cream of the crop of hair brushes! They feel heavy compared to the average hair brush but definitely help tame your hair! As I have very tangly hair, I tend to brush the bottom of my hair first and then brush from the crown (trust me, it helps!)

The first brush is the Denman D83 Large Paddle Brush. ''The Denman Paddle brush is perfect for gently grooming long, thick hair. Ball-ended nylon pins are set into an air-cushioned natural rubber pad to penetrate, smooth and straighten the hair. The matt finish handle provides grip and control.'' I use this once my hair is completely dry, and before I straighten it. It is very good at removing any tangles.
The second brush is the Denman D3 Medium 7 Row Styling Brush. ''Medium styling brush with 7 rows of nylon pins. The famous Denman anti-static rubber pad provides maximum grip and control during blow-drying for shaping hair. The most famous styling brush in the world!''. I use this when I blow dry my hair, and I also use this during days when I don't style my hair :) It's my favourite brush - and it makes my hair look so much healthier!

You can purchase Denman brushes from their website, Boots or from Amazon :) They are much more expensive than your average brush, but they are of the finest quality (hairdressers use them too) and are definitely worth a purchase :)

Lil Miss Fluffy: My hair care routine *

I've recently been obsessed with taking care of my hair. I go through different phases, for example, last month I was obsessed about lipsticks and the month before it was eye shadows!

I was also inspired to do this post after reading my beautiful friend Sriya's post on hair care.

Here are some products that I have been using:

 Before washing my hair:
I am fortunate enough to have naturally thick hair, but it does go through different phases! I use Argan oil or Almond oil on my hair before every wash. I massage it in and wash my hair an hour later.

1)Argan oil is considered by some 'liquid gold'. I purchased this in Morocco and I really wish I bought a few more bottles! My hair always looks so healthy and shiny after washing it.

2)Almond oil is great too - especially for dry and damaged hair. I purchased this from my local Indian grocery store (I believe that Waitrose sell this too).

Washing my hair:
I don't use all of these products whilst washing my hair but I do mix and match.

1) Timotei shampoo - unfortunately I have extremely sensitive skin. Most shampoos break my forehead out! This one does not break me out though - thank god! I buy this from my Local Wilkinson's - it only costs about £2. I've noticed that this shampoo gives me lots of volume - I really like it! I don't like the packaging though - one time I left it in my drawer and it leaked!

2) Joico K-Pac conditioner: I use this conditioner twice a week on the ends of my hair. It makes my hair feel so nice and soft. I received this product in my goody bag at the National Beauty Bloggers event. It also smells very nice and fresh. I will definitely be purchasing this product!

3) Aussie Luscious Long Conditioner - I have mentioned this product in a previous post, but because I love it so much I mentioned it again! I love this product because of the smell - it makes my hair smell so sweet and fruity. Furthermore, it adds a lot of shine to my hair. I won this product in a giveaway btw :) I do have other Aussie Conditioners but this is my favourite one :)

4) Tony and Guy conditioner for damaged hair - I nabbed this at the Tony and Guy fashion show event (which I will be blogging about!) I used this on Friday night and it made my hair feel very soft. I did have some trouble straightening my hair though because the product made my hair very silky! I am off to Manchester tomorrow to party with my friends and I will be taking this product as it is travel friendly :)

Styling my hair:

I am not very creative with my hair. I tend to straighten it, and tie it up at night so it's slightly wavy! I am trying to spend more time doing my hair but I get really bored. I purchased these products last year when there was an offer at Superdrug.

1) Tresemme Salon Silk - I use this on my hair when it's wet and avoid putting too much on the crown of my head (where it gets greasy). This makes my hair more sleek, but doesn't get rid of all of the frizz! I do like this product because it's travel friendly and quite cheap.
2) Tresemme Heat Defence- I always make sure I add heat protection to my hair before straightening it. I spritz this all over my hair and let it dry naturally. I don't use hair dryers unless I'm in a hurry - the less heat the better. Even if I don't style my hair, heat protection is important as the Sun damages it. This product is great because it lasts forever!

When my hair is dry
Neal and Wolf Shine Spray - I received this in my Glossy Box for September. I was not expecting the product to be a miracle worker. I LOVE this product. I sprayed it in my hair whilst it was wet (you're actually meant to spray this product when your hair is dry) and it added lots of shine. I went to work on Saturday and four customers complimented by hair (three were men and one of them was a hairdresser). I've never received lots of compliments on my hair, especially by men, so I was pretty chuffed. I believe it was this product! I'm so glad I subscribed to the Glossy Box because I never would have heard about this brand.

 In between washes:

You guys know how much I love Batiste dry shampoos! I avoid washing my hair everyday because I feel that it's 1) Too time consuming 2) Getting rid of those beneficial oils in your hair. I wash my hair every two days, and I use dry shampoo from the second day. I tend to use the dry shampoo at night time as it usually gets fully absorbed by the time I wake up. I love this Tropical Batiste shampoo because it smells so nice and fresh :)

 Hair care tips:
  •  Avoid styling your hair too much. All that hairspray and malarkey is damaging your hair! I try to only straighten my hair once or twice a week to prevent heat damage.
  • Eat carrots - well eating healthily is known to benefit your hair but carrots in particular are good for preventing hair loss.
  • Wheat germ - I've done a post on this, so have a look. When I was eating wheatgerm my hair was growing so quickly. It may not work on you but it worked very well on me!
  • Avoid touching your hair too much
  • I also use a silk pillow at night time, which has helped tame my frizzy hair.
  • I really recommend massaging oil into your hair - coconut oil is also good for your hair.
  • I used to use henna to condition my hair. It also slightly lightened it but made my hair look glossy for weeks.
  • Ensure you're eating enough iron - as a vegetarian I have low iron levels - which causes my hair to fall out. I try to eat lots of spinach or take iron tablets.
  • Brush/ comb your hair everyday - my hair dresser told me that it prevents your hair from falling out too much. I also try to brush my hair during the day to keep it straight (it actually works!)
And just in case you're wondering, here is my natural hair (it's pretty crazy right?)
